An emergency management professional is an integral part of any community, for he or she has been trained to react responsibly, quickly and effectively to a disaster in order to help the community and individuals in need. Often, a professional in this field will be responsible to quickly dispatch emergency food or medical supplies, or possibly coordinate the evacuation of an entire town if the situation requires. Typical career designations in this field include emergency response team members, dispatchers, firefighters, policemen and Red Cross members. Regardless of the specialization chosen, a student pursuing an emergency management degree will be required to take courses that focus on risk assessment and emergency planning.
