Many employees would consider themselves “lost” without their Administrative Assistant (AA) or Office Manager (OM). While the other employees are taking care of their responsibilities, the AA or OM is busy keeping the office running at status quo. Typical responsibilities of the Administrative staff include office administration, management analysis, office machine maintenance, dictation, maintaining office supplies, negotiating contracts with vendors for office supplies and equipment, travel arrangement, and possibly some small accounts receivable and accounts payable processing. It is a position of many hats, and although a high school diploma may suffice with enough experience, degree holders tend to be able to receive higher salaries and more managerial positions should they be available.
