Many engineers rely on CAD (Computer Aided Design) to complete many of their projects. CAD is a computer based drafting program utilized by engineers and designers to create drafts of blueprints for buildings, automobiles, bridges, machinery, and other technical items. After the blueprint is created, a CAD engineer may work to design a prototype of the blueprinted item, and find the most cost effective way of bringing that prototype to life. Many CAD engineers use software such as AutoDesk’s AutoCAD (ACAD) as well as TurboCAD. Certification may be required or at least encouraged by employers for CAD Engineers because of the high level of technical aspect to the job. These certification programs can include studying other software packages like CAID (Computer-Aided Industrial Design) and CADD (Computer-Aided Design & Drafting) to increase the expertise of the employee.
