Often a degree in computer engineering will have a focus on electrical engineering, and depending on the concentration, can also be termed Electrical and Computer Engineering. This program places emphasis on computer hardware construction and problem-solving, and an average course load will include content related to processor interfacing and digital logic design. A student must have a strong grasp on all concepts related to electronics and circuits. In addition to hardware, a computer engineer is responsible for understanding how the software interacts with hardware – essentially being able to integrate and design all aspects of software and hardware for computers. A Computer Engineering degree is offered on college campuses, as well as at technical schools or in an online classroom. Within a Computer Engineering degree, one will find specialization in computer programming, information security, information technology and software development.
